Awake

They told me to sleep.
But I have promises I've made and a deadline to keep.
But I can't sleep,
For every time I close my eyes,
All I see is pain,
shadows on the wall, dancing, watching me.
Waiting for my slumber so they can resume their game.
Why don't I sleep?
The demons like to play when I close my mind,
They get stronger, I get weaker.
So I stay awake -
For now I don't sleep.
