Awake

To honor my friend who passed away on 8/16
and her daughters who took such good care of her.
Rest in peace, my friend, in the arms of Jesus

the ebb and flow, fluidity
of blood
through arteries and veins
stopped

still, the shell
they take

we’ve been so busy
arms like lead

awake
to the silence

the break,
now that we have it
is a crying-shame

the loft the dog
      sat upon

memories
and his not too distant future

nor ours

Death truly is "the break." I have never seen it so well described - the break in the line of a our relationship with the one who is gone. This is a wonderful tribute. Please know you are in my prayers at this time of sorrow. Losing a friend is like losing a part of you. Sending you and your friend's family comfort on wings of prayer.

I’m sure she is. Of that we can console ourselves. Thank you, my friend!
