Awaiting Summer
The countryside had slept through a long winters chill
I had waited and searched for the first signs of spring from a hill
Now Spring shows it's first signs under a clear blue sky
a weak yellow sun shines down from on high
the countryside depicted a world turning green
new life from old such a joy to be seen
flowers start blooming their buds so sublime
wildlife awakens a sight so divine
distant cottages masked in a strange purple haze
amid fields of pasture where cattle do graze
a stream running clear as fished swim by
oh! what an image to hold til I die
soon I may lay beneath a tree-
to gain respite from the heat-
when that time comes it will be such a treat
the sounds and the smells on a hot summer's breeze
and a bright yellow sun will shine through a canopy of trees
When summer arrives.
