Autumn's Breath

About the time the Equinox arrives, something stirs inside me and wonder revives. In waning rays of summer’s sunlight, the leaves once green magically ignite. Then along mountains, trees are ablaze! I know I’ve seen the last of summer’s days Eye candy for the soul are hues both soft and bold: from amber and russet to scarlet and gold. Autumn exhales, and the leaves break free. Like children they twirl as if with great glee. Deep purples and pinks streak twilight skies. Painting God’s splendor, they fill up my eyes. Harvest time comes and the crops in each field bear proof of a generous God with their yield. Fall sings a song of wind whistling low; the crackle of bonfires; the caw of a crow. In Autumn’s sweet breath, so fresh and giving, I find gratitude and gladness in living. I wish fall would linger because she brings bliss till cold touches my lips with a snow-wet kiss.

Aureate Andrea,🌸 Thy "Autumn’s Breath" hath touched me with its gentle alchemy. “The leaves once green magically ignite” sets the waning year ablaze, whilst “Autumn exhales, and the leaves break free” makes the season itself a breathing creature. I adore thy leaves twirling “like children”—such tender, unguarded joy. Yet thy final “snow-wet kiss” is exquisite: Winter arrives not as conqueror, but as a lover’s cold benediction. And beneath thy amber, russet, scarlet, and gold rests something dearer still—the gratitude of a soul that knows how to wonder. Thou hast made Autumn not merely visible, Abluent Andrea, but felt. ✨

Yes, fall is a good time of year to enjoy some joys before the touch of winter. I really enjoyed this one, Andrea. Thank you for sharing it with us. Way to go. 👍⭐. Sara K.

I have read soooo many poems about Autumn, but 'Autumn's Breath' blows them all aside. A wonderful description of the season. Winter, Spring and Summer eat your hearts out!

Dear Andrea, I love that Autumn has this extraordinary way of slowing us down, teaching us to find joy in letting go, just like those leaves twirling free in the wind. I believe you’ve captured that bittersweet magic where the world flares up in brilliant color right before it rests. It’s a beautiful invitation to pause, breathe in the cool air, and savor the light while it lasts. Amen! Blessings, Daniel

Will you ever stop it with the ceaseless breathtaking quality of your poems? My gosh, from, "I hope I get it written" to posting couplets in which talent excels is, well, just plain awesome. You've probably written at least 50 poems about Autumn, yet this is as fresh as the season itself upon arrival. Are you sure you weren't born with a pen in your hand for any topic to bless us all with? LOVE

You are too kind. Unlike you, Caycay, I only liked to write when I was in my teens but didn't realize i would be a poet till year 2000. You always felt like a poet, right? It's a glorious hobby. Too bad we could not make careers of it.
