Autumn's Blessing
With the blush of autumn’s blessing a virgin is undressing,
Her innocence confessing to the truth of nature’s laws.
She’s a mystery most famous, yet to herself she’s nameless,
Self-composed and shameless as I offer my applause.
Though the summer heat’s departed, her clothing lies unguarded,
Carelessly discarded for the wind to snatch away.
In the sky she’s standing under the heavens boast no thunder.
She’s naked to the wonder of a pale blue peaceful day.
Unimpressed with my desire, this goddess of the shire
With slender arms raised higher contemplates a silent prayer.
I’m in awe of autumn’s blessing, but find myself confessing
My thoughts are now addressing in the springtime what she’ll wear.
