Notes About The Poem

Autumn Scent

Autumn Scent

A scent of urgency carried on the wind
fills my nostrils with a whiff of a smell
I know all too well,

The trees, still green, don’t fool me one bit
(chatter as they will in the breeze). I am attuned,
to that crisp, paltry air carrying the portentous message.

Fall is on the prowl, and now the days
will flutter by like leaves on the wind,
then a wisp of snow, followed by a storm,
and winter will be here again.
