Autumn Psalm
The air is cold and sharp, a sudden change,
A silver frost is scattered on the lawn,
And all the familiar trees look wild and strange.
The green of summer is entirely gone,
As leaves of amber flutter to the ground,
And greet the coming of a brittle dawn.
A deeper quiet settles all around,
A pause that nature takes before the cold,
Where silence is the only remaining sound.
The autumn stories are waiting to be told,
Of shedding light and preparing for sleep,
A world transformed to copper and to gold.
But within the heart, it’s solid and deep.
