AUTUMN MUM

I am a Mum—that is my only name.
I’ve flowered through the year, into the frost.
My kids have left the house, but all the same,
I hold their memories at any cost.

November’s knocking at my door. I know:
The winter’s coming, so I must depart,
But I am leaving in the falling snow
My lonely empty-flower-potter’s heart.

A tender, finely shaped miniature: the autumn-flower metaphor holds both maternal devotion and the ache of an empty home. The steady rhyme and seasonal movement—from flowering to frost, November to snow—give the poem a gentle inevitability, while “empty-flower-potter’s heart” leaves a particularly poignant final image.

Thank you! I was trying to hint a connection between “empty flower pot” and “empty nest.” I’m afraid that wasn’t clear enough.
