Autumn Leaves
Autumn days as I recall
When sitting outside in the Fall,
Were enchanting scenes
Of children jumping,
Into a pile of leaves
Freshly raked by me.
The mound of leaves
Weathered and haggard,
Of various species and colours,
Had the sombre effect
Of reminding us,
Of leaves once green and robust!
And I see myself as a leaf
Separated from the tree;
Beyond the grasp of youthfulness past,
Sadly, ending for whatever the purpose.
