Autumn In Love

I showed my scars You smiled as though I were a child, Showing baubles. I showed you my past You shared with me yours. It's the falling that's terrifying, You know. Even when we know there's healing Water below Or strong steel chairs to hold us It's the knowing This may not end well. It's the thousands of falls Most little Caught only by unyielding ground. That is the memory The fear. You need only land once Poorly To fear the fall. I wonder Because a third of the stars fell Do they still fear falling? Is that why love is so hard? I'm falling, and scared I try not to thrash as I plummet Yet it's hard not to be eager For the falling to stop--
