Autum Winds

¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Autumn winds ¦¦¦ blowing down
On a thousand ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ women
Having baths ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦

¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Steam's escaping here and there,
Morning ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ cutting
Shake ¦¦¦ Crescent and ¦¦¦ Square.

¦¦¦¦¦ nip of changeful autumn,
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ through garden doors,
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦

¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Business women ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ soak,
Seeing ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ draughty skylight
Flying clouds ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ smoke.

Rest you ¦¦¦¦¦¦ poor ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ones,
Lap ¦¦¦¦ loneliness in heat.
All too soon ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ breakfast,
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦

Miranda, this is a fantastic piece of blackout poetry. I love how you've carved away the original text to reveal such a poignant, atmospheric scene. The isolated phrases like "Lap loneliness in heat" and "Flying clouds smoke" perfectly capture the solitary chill and quiet vulnerability of an autumn morning. The visual spacing of the redacted text also adds beautifully to that fragmented, drifting feeling of steam and wind. Masterfully uncovered!
