Autobiographical Notes

Origins
You wonder how I came to be?
Born as a stump of a dead oak tree,
a howling wind sculpted my bark
till lighting struck me in the dark.
Forget everything you've been told.
I was born a hundred years old.

Youth's Ardent Pursuits
'Twas on the Pemberton River bridge
that I was first to take the stage.
They fished me out from the mud alive.
The news review called it a bad swan dive.

Wisdom of Old Age
A bird cannot marry a tree.
One stays rooted. One flies free,
and when her flying days are done,
a lonely tree lingers on.

First Home
"My house is haunted, I suspect...
might I consult the architect?"
A voice at once replied,
"I'm afraid to say that I have died,
and though I understand your fears,
the architect's been dead for years."

Aristocratic Stock
I have a lofty pedigree.
My uncle hung from a tree.

Philosophical Contributions
'Twasn't the man, but his shoes that walked,
while his big mouth talked the talk.
I could only sit and gawk,
my head perched on a celery stalk.

Including Handsome Photographs
a picture of me when I was young
before the hanging judge's sentence sung
the charges which upon me clung
by the willow tree where I was hung

Thanks, Gershon!! If I ever win gold in ice-skating, these notes are going to come in very handy!
