August Heat
August heat used to send us to the river
to fish
in the scorching heat we would go
stand under the trees
maybe swim
then move upriver
I'd bait the hooks
the boys were babies
and we'd fish
mud up to our knees
brown from so much summer sun
and starving for dinner.
