a setting sun
ends its run;
the day's done,
darkness won
night's begun;
everyone
but my son
leaves one by one.
gazing up at night's starry skies
through a five-year-old's eyes,
he starts to fantasize.
the stars look like fireflies,
and watching the moon rise
triggers audible sighs;
but as things normalize,
shooting stars revive his surprise.
