Notes About The Poem

This is a picture of my friend, Susan, whom I met in English class in 1968.  We were instant friends and remained friends until we lost touch while in college.  By a twist of fate, however, we were reconnected via Facebook  where I learned Susan married and moved to Munich, Germany, in 1972 where she's lived ever since.  We now regularly exchange letters and once a quarter speak on the phone.

ATLANTIC COURIER

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ salt-stained envelope softened by Atlantic mist— your words unfold warmth across my kitchen table. distance dissolves in each looped g, each smudged comma tracing laughter voiced across ocean waves.
I read your text under the photo followed by your brevity ~ It read to me like a beautiful haibun. Loved it.
