At the End

Ever so much more than friend
Wearing scars of love's lullaby
I can still see you at the end

Our song often left wounds to mend
Each time we'd return; blood barely dry
Ever so much more than friend

To the depths of spite we'd descend
But against hatred's grip we'd ally
I can still see you at the end

Betrayed by hope left alone to fend
Holding on; clasped hands cracked & dry
Ever so much more than friend

Cuts slowly heal, the burn lessened
The allure to give up we'd deny
I can still see you at the end

We stand frayed on a path we didn't intend
My hand in yours I walk with closed eyes
Ever so much more than friend
I can still see you at the end

Well I had to come find a villanelle. My favorite form of course. This is a good one. It's about holding on and yes more than a friend, so much more. That line is so powerful. Nice work.

It’s best to start with the end in mind. It’s one of the best ways to arrive at one’s destination. I like where you started from. This is an excellent first poem for the soup. Hugs Rick.

Thanks Rick. I wish I remembered what the actual first one was; it was so long ago. I guess that's why I would now recommend against deleting an account; even when being attacked. When I opened this second one I honestly had no idea which poems were originally posted. So I just added the most recent ones at that point in time.

Wow, I felt this a'll the way to my core. Good stuff, it's raw I like it. I'm very new to this type of formal type writing, I'll be honest I just guessed at the type of form mine are even in. I haven't a clue, but I know what soul sounds like if that makes since. You got plenty of it. Nice work.
