At the Door Step of Eternity

I looked at the stars with a gloom in my heart,
They numbered on some million they were.
Those clouds flew by to their destined end,
And dew settled down on that cold chilly night.

The world slept on as the night began to fade,
And creatures there shivered as they lay;
I pulled at my moist uncomfortable drape,
And longed for the warmth that passed beyond my way.

The moonlit shone over the distant scene,
And cold wind blew through the grassy terrain.
I shivered again but my body turned numb,
And life began to glide into the eternal world.
