At the Crack of Dawn
Listen to poem:
My dawns never break with a crack, clap or snap.
My dawns are solemn and eerily quiet.
The cracks in an egg hit are jagged and torn
nothing like the smooth-edged slits of first light,
the wedges of bright light on the horizon, when day breaks.
Dawn is not sudden like the crack of a rifle or whip.
While it's true, dawn is quick and sneaks up on you,
the pre-dawn glow and beams herald its coming.
So let us all have a crack at dispelling
this 'crack of dawn' myth,
Dawns don't crack!
