Notes About The Poem

At The Cemetery

" The blue jay is seen as a powerful spirit messenger."- Author unknown

It was a cold fall morning as the leaves swirled in the crisp windy air
I decided to walk in the cemetery and chose the path that was bare
A crow cackled and a blue jay squawked loudly and they carried on
Ignoring them as I thought of the day you were taken and now gone
I sat on the bench overlooking your gravestone and felt such raw despair
A blue jay landed on the bench as I searched for closure and shed a tear

This touched my heart and swelled my tears. Have we ever crossed poem paths before? I can't remember ever reading you, but I live with what's called a traumatic brain disorder that makes not remembering one of my specialties. I see it won just as it should have ... CayCay

Beautifully penned my friend. My mother always said cardinals were messengers from heaven. I smile anytime I see one now. I think that maybe she is watching over me.

Dear Tania, This one settled in my chest like the hush of a cold morning, the kind where grief moves as naturally as the wind through fallen leaves. There’s such stark beauty in the way you paint the moment and not just in what’s seen, but in what’s felt. The crow, the blue jay, the emptiness of the path… it’s all so vivid, so alive, even in the presence of loss. It’s heavy, but it’s also a kind of grace. Spring Blessings, my Dear Friend, Daniel

Another gem Tania, I've heard of birds suddenly appearing and that it's a loved one letting you know all is well. Over here it's the Robin. Good luck in the contest.. Tom
