At Night, In Response to the Vanderbilt Tragedy
At Night, A Response to the Vanderbilt Suicide,
At Night, alone in my home,
I am afraid,
For in the dark, though God says fear not, I fear,
For the horrors I have known in my mind,
Though they have been healed, a residue remains past the point of recollection,
And haunts me,
Sometimes I am angry at God for allowing the horrors,
But most times I know he sorrows with me,
For the things the devil made me see,
And so every time a wee lad or lass should end too soon,
I assume they’ve seen those horrors too,
And I sorrow deep,
Thank God that though through tragedy, still they sleep,
Free from the monsters that haunt me beyond recollection,
I tell you, when you see a man confused along his way,
Do not scoff or chide, but instead grab him and say,
“You are loved!”
For that is really all he needs to know,
To keep going.
