At Last No Blast

I stepped outdoors to moist air, brisk As fallen leaves in circles whisked Accompanied by swishing trees Which symphony could only please And, aah, no blast of humid heat Engulfed me in my driver’s seat I lower the window, mist blows in Soothes my asthma, fans my skin; Now the drizzle just began Nice and cozy in my van Driving up the street, serene Taking in the autumn scene

My dear Hannah, I can see why this piece is a winner - it makes me feel as if I am part of the scenery, part of an awesome Autumn painting! Bravo! Hugs. Pandita

I consider it my only 'normal' poem

oh no, Hannah. NOT from LIttle HOuse. ID channel, which shows gruesome true crimes, has done shows on it, not meant for children!!

I was mistaken. I'm not sure of my original source of the story. But I've seen Laura Ingalls' version in the book Pioneer Girl as of a couple of years ago. I looked up the annotations now; apparently, she wrote it for a children's book, but then did not include it. Copied and pasted excerpt: "One night just about sundown a strange man came riding his horse up to the door on a run. Pa hurried out and they talked a few minutes. Then the man went away as fast as he had come, and Pa came into the house in a hurry. He would not wait for supper, but asked Ma to give him a bite to eat right away, saying he must go. Something horrible had happened at Benders."

Hannah, how was the Benders written about and for children? On channel ID it says for adults only. Is it somewhere being used as a cautionary tale?

I thought you knew about it from The Little House books. Most recently, I read about it in Laura Ingall's original manuscript, which offered more details than her brief account in one of the children's series. Pa claimed a narrow escape. (Laura's my idol). Interesting: The manuscript has a recent photo of the cottonwoods Pa planted, so I had fun traveling on the Google Earth app to De Smet to look at the trees.

I came here in case you do not see my replies to you on my comments. Yes, I am a big fan of true crime and I know all about the Benders. It's a wonder my mind is not that of a serial killer from all the shows I have watched on the topic. Let me find another poem of yours I can read new.

Silent One wrote one on fiction. In our recent communication, i let know that I don't do fiction, and the same regarding fiction movies, which leaves me with reality. I recently caught on to Forensic Files and have been watching them one after another. The stories all so shocking and sad. The Benders stands out for being historic and written about for children.

I love this, even though I am opposite of you. I am a summer baby, hating the idea of winter coming!! You did a great job here.
