At Last, a Leader For Our Times

At last, someone we can believe in
    no airs, no baggage, a sense of humor
  
  Pokes fun at himself, but not the next guy
    audiences ring with laughter, no one cries

  On the issues he's very well-informed
    tends to conserve, but unafraid to reform

  He even says, "I don't have all the answers now"
    ... probably won't tomorrow either, anyhow

  Only one slight problem with this ideal candidate
    Seems he died in eighteen-hundred seventy-eight

Gershon, you made me laugh till I cried, and even my husband had a good laugh when we read your comment to Milton "...perhaps it was 1778...!" My goodness, I'm with Panagiota....you get my vote! I'll help Panagi with getting you elected :) Here's an idea, maybe we can all move to Sleepy Hollow and elect you as Mayor?! Lol, my goodness! This was certainly a fun one to read! In the words of Bob Hope "I think humor is very significant in our American society today because, if there’s anything this country needs, it’s a few laughs. We certainly have the straight lines today, and the more dramatic side of our history, and I believe anything that can bring the people a little release is very, very important." Bob Hope 1967

I thank you for such warm comments, BJ. I have good news and bad news, however. The good news is that Sleepy Hollow needs a mayor, as it doesn't have one. The bad news is that if you and Pangi and your families moved there, there would be nowhere to live, as there are 'no vacancies there' currently... No it's not a hotel, but it's a 'town' with a few homes, and that's it. Not even a stoplight. lol. So, back to the drawing board. lol... Thanks again so much. Cheers, Gershon

GW, I'm trying to figure out who fits your description in politics who died in 1878! Rutherford B. Hayes was president in 1878, but I don't think you had him in mind! I'd have to do too much research to uncover a decidedly outstanding politician who kicked the bucket in 1878!

Hi Gershon. I think you are a leader here and in the world too! I know you make a big difference in many lives. But… You are just a humble person who doesn’t blow their own horn. America is made up of many leaders…millions of us who work every day, raise families , go to church or Temple~we are the real leaders!!We don’t need one leader. We also pay taxes to support our government. Many Americans died saving many countries. One leader could never do what we do. We do laugh! Good poem. Pangie
