At Fourteen

Look at you at fourteen. I envy you!
Romance is shortly headed your way,
but here is what I need for you to do:
Be brave; throw not your dreams away.
Go abroad, but after that, don’t return
to that college far from home. Also learn
to wiser be (buy stock in Microsoft!)

Congratulaions dear poetess on your top win in this contest with a cute poem on being at fourteen. Microsoft ewas founded in 1975 when you would probably have been around 25. Anyway, a poem is a poem, where anacronism is not material.

I was only 19 in '75, but I heard Microsoft was a great investment in the 80's!

Yes, if only we could have made some right choices when we were young. If I had more money when I was younger, I could have bought a property at a very low price and gradually done some work on it then only a few years later sold it for what seemed like at that time for a fortune, but money plays a key role. If my older self visited me and told me to invest in a future company that would allow me not to worry about money, I would have found some job and started working my butt off to afford stocks in it. Haha. Who better to trust than someone from the future, especially if it's yourself!!

Nice poem Andrea...but I just got triggered - LOL. Buy stock in Microsoft. I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. I turned down a job offer from Microsoft in 1982 when they were a small company. A friend of mine got hired in '85, and quit and said he lost millions in stock options...well, long story. Anyway, if we knew then what we know now!

Yes. I would certainly impress on my younger self to buy stocks to make myself set for life! Oh the things we look back on that make us want to cry. I curse the fact that I returned to BYU. I am the only one in my family who never gets to be part of reunions because I married and got stuck here in the west!
