When in the throws of desperation, afflicted with being unable to breathe, struggling for the smallest breath to keep alive, strange thoughts come to mind. What terrible crime must have been committed in a past life to be assigned a life of such suffering? Would not death be a kinder way out? These are the thoughts that invade the mind when lungs fail to perform. I have never documented the way I sometimes feel , another such feeling last night decided me its time I did. This is the last time I will ever mention it again, so I decided to post it.

Accused of wrong doing, recompense was demanded.
Inflicting retributive punishment is what I was handed.
Relentless struggle to take in air, my voice so rasp. 
Agonizing, laborious striving to inhale, I gasp.
Monotonous effort, to force my body to breathe.
All energy spent, a body not worthy of life, I seethe. 
Too weak to continue, as hopeless as it seems, 
To end this misery, was only in my dreams,
A calm settled as images of my bygone years showed. 
The irony of death giving me life was blissfully bestowed. 
All pain diminished, as visions of heaven came to me. 
Peace beyond dreaming on my journey to the cemetery.

I never talk about it to those that don't see it LAF, as I come across as quite "normal" to people online and I like it that way. One gets used to the physical affliction, but when things get bad its the mental approach that is so bewildering. Thoughts flash that are so unlike the usual thoughts, and that's what I tried to explain. I am a pretty upbeat person most of the time, but as you see by my poem, - not always. This is a once only Hilda, I will never write about it again, but it struck me that its not just your body that is afflicted with many illnesses, its a mind thing also, and that never really is talked about. Mine was self inflicted with smoking so lets hope young ones heed the warnings and don't smoke. This is one illness that can be eradicated. Thank you for your thoughtful comment, its appreciated.
