Ask the Rose

life has its seasons
as does the earth
we know not the reasons
for neither death nor birth
         we all celebrate
         we all face tragedy
         making me contemplate
         life's greatest mystery
the mystery of love
the reasoning behind it
that thing we all dream of
to renew our spirit
         but love accompanies
         loss and pain
         it's woven into our destinies
         as natural as the rain
our souls are created
given the breath of life
our souls are mated
then given the burden of strife
         that's the way life goes
         so we all say
         but what says the rose,
         as she wilts slowly away?
