Notes About The Poem

Constance's old Christmas poetry contest  Snow Fantasy Themed Contest ~ 12/7/25

As Snowflakes Spill

"The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event where you
go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different,
and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?"
                                                                                              J. B. Priestley

I raise wistful eyes aloft to mountain tops,
wearing knitted snowy white shawls.
As I pretend fresh snow silently drops,
I am a princess, behind stone castle walls.

Crystalline flakes kiss limbs of pine trees.
In starlight's glow, eloquence is serene
From turret window, I feel a frigid breeze
in this hushed winter world, pristine.

Silvered moonlight glows across each hill.
From canopied forest a proud prince emerges.
From the sky, sparkling snowflakes spill
and my heart beats with romantic urges.

Near enough to behold his handsome face,
the creaking drawbridge pleases my ears.
Tonight, snowy mountain will be a happy place
for I'll taste his lips mingled with tears.

In entrancing snow globe realms, I dwell,
my fertile imagination is divine.
As a princess, I can cast a spell
over reveries I call... 'forever mine.'

Congratulations on your win. " As Snowflakes Spill"  is a wonderful/powerful write. What A Great/Pretty Picture You Have Here. Years ago when I was walking in hell. A friend gave me a small pate and written on it was, "Life Is Very Fragile Handle With Prayer." So Very True. I really enjoyed reading. Have a Very Blessed Christmas and New Year 2026. Enjoy the day/weekend with your win.............

Hi there!! I like how you write on several levels. Do we experience something like this as reality, fantasy, or somewhere in between? I was listening to one of our former poet laureates describe what good poetry does, and this fits that definition. Lin, you also touch on adult emotional aspects of life with taste. I can imagine all kinds of encounters that might result. Hope you are having a good day in this brief and fragile existence we have! Smiles!!!!

Hi, Duke. Your compliments always bring smiles, so thank you for that as well as your considerate comments that you so faithfully leave for my poetry. Your support is always appreciated. Our existence is brief and fragile, so we must take care in so many ways to prolong and protect it. Merci, my friend.

Hi, John. Thank you for recognizing the capability of love spilling its insanity into our lives and can set us whirling and tumbling as snowflakes can. Hoping you've been well. ;-)
