Listen to poem:

As is

As the scene is set, as is, cements the context,
to what is, and to what can become.
As the sun sinks beneath the horizon,
the shadows stretch, dragging out to memories.
As water laps at the stones,
the past returns in ripples recast, reflected back.
As night draws a veil over the valley,
the silence deepens in its intensity, heavy with unsaid things.
As the candle burns down to the wick's end,
hope curls up in swirls of smoke,
distilled to hold the embers without trembling.
As dawn lights up an empty room,
each beam whispers courage into corners lurking with fear.
As the church bells toll at midnight,
time pauses between now and then, to catch a breath, impending.
As is, the moon face is pocked with craters, yet the tides still yield its tug and pull.
As is - take me as I am - medium-rare, truthful, honest.
As is - I'm half-awake, half-lit, yearning, and still learning what you want.
