As He Lay Dying

As he lay dying, slowly wasting away
He reviewed his life with ever-increasing dismay
Had he ever thanked his folks for their efforts on his behalf?
He knew he hadn't --- a monumental gaffe

Had he professed his love to his wife each and every day?
Had he listened intently to every word she had to say?
Had he always treated her with the respect she'd deserved?
Or had he criticized her sharply for being shy and reserved?

Had he treasured the time he got to spend with his kids?
Had he checked himself when he was ready to blow his lid?
Had he loved his children selflessly and unconditionally?
Or had he demanded that they do things perfectly?

Every tick of the clock is precious, the poets and Sages say
Live each moment to its fullest --- before the last one slips away!

Congrats Gershon,on your win-- can easily relate to the bundle of regrets one can accumulate....

Let's 'bundle' those regrets into a subterranean loan -- kind of like a subprime loan, I guess. O.K., let's not, and say we did! Thank you for your encouragement, L.J. ~ Gershon

Thank you, Gershon, for your well-written words of wisdom in your winning piece. I love your message! Much of the joy we find in life is about gratitude - to others for their role in our lives, for the blessings and talents we have, and for life itself (every single day of which is truly a gift). Well done!! All my very best to you & yours! :) Bartholomew

Life IS precious, and it is our duty to live every moment as if it were our last, thus at the end we would not fear regrets. Thank you for these words of wisdom, Gershon. Regards // paul

They say (whoever 'they' are) that you get wise at the end - but thanks to your words, I have the gift of being wise now, when I can benefit from it, so thank you!
