As Darkness Closes In

“Writing about a writer's block is better than not writing at all” - Charles Bukowski
As Darkness Closes In
With the growing shadows now fading away, a darkness slowly overtakes my world. Perhaps it is an eclipse, a temporary thing… or perhaps the darkness is the end of time. I now sit alone in my lonely room with nothing but my faded poetry to keep me company on this ebon night as the silence leaves a ringing in my ears. With the oil lamp glowing on the corner of my desk where the lines once flowed from within my heart, I quietly sit with my quill in hand, while staring blankly at the parchment page… silently seeking, searching to find the thoughts that once seeped from deep in my mind and poured forth in wondrous words and rhymes, but the once flowing inkwell has now run dry. My vivid reveries have all disappeared, slowly fading away into a dark abyss. Perhaps it is an eclipse, a temporary thing, or perhaps the darkness is the end of time...

As Darkness Closes In is a beautiful poem, John, so relatable. We've all been there. Your saddest lines conjer up visions of the distant past, even glimpses of Edgar Alan Poe, strangely enough. I love it! I imagine I will be returning to this poem quite often. Ellen

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Ellen, I appreciate you. It seems that the past few months I have had trouble even putting two lines together. Maybe I’ll get my mojo back soon. John

Perhaps thoughts are lingering, just waiting for the right moment to caress the page. (That's how it is for me.) Sometimes I think my muse has deserted me, and then out of the blue, she arrives. Your muse will always find you. I know this to be true. This is beautiful, tender and emotional, all at the same time. I look forward to reading your next masterpiece, my dear friend. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Nope, don’t even have any thoughts lingering, but I suppose you are right, they will come when the time is right. Thank you for your support, Brandy, I appreciate it. Hugs, John

Well spoken John. There are times when the words seem to be on strike negotiating for better terms! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on a very frustrating experience for writers! Blessings to you and your pen! May both never run dry!

Very nice, John. I think we all experience it from time to time. Strange that one day I can't think of a thing to write; the next I can't write fast enough to keep up with all the new ideas. Strange!

Thanks for sharing, Milt, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced the latter. But I’ve never been totally uninspired either. John

Something that we all encounter from time to time, the dreaded writers block, or hitting a wall as I call it. No evidence of it here John, hope you are keeping well. Tom

John, I feel every word you penned deeply . You have so beautifully described the lonely scene at your desk where words would pour forth . I used to think if I had not painted for a few months that somehow I was behind or missing out or having a block . A friend said - just because your not painting doesn’t mean you are not growing. My soul and heart were evolving and processing life . When I returned to work I had brought my present self to the work and magic happened . You are marinating in …
