As a Poet Sees
I think constant thoughts
turning them every which way
trying to convey
experience
as deeply
as this moment
from where I
stand
sniffing a wine's bouquet
while a eucalyptus smoke wind
fills the dusk
like life itself
and grape leaves
spun in sunlight grow
like spider's webs
spun invisibly
by dewdrops and
September's flow
and still I don't know if words
will ever weave a life
as beautiful as I know
but surely
the words blow
across experience
giving magical glimpses of life
as a poet sees it and tries
to show it
