Artificial Beauty

Rare, natural, unblemished, lasting and profound

Beauty is penned, defined and crooned

From poets, authors, artist and strangers

Described in depth, penned to death,

Setting standards unreachable by the masses.

Products slathered, potions swallowed, scalpels wielded

Suctioned and enhanced to have a chance

In a world so small minded and superficial

Seeking an approved, natural look

From the very masses that sit in self help classes.

Time creeps up, with gravities silent pull

Stripping the unnatural lifts, tucks and additions

Gone are the showpieces, the odes of the poet

Forgotten by the masses attending their classes

Artificial beauty, behind walls free of mirrored glasses.

I have to say, I find this quite lovely. I really like your internal rhymes, and your attention to the subject. It is not so common that a poet can criticize the effect of poetry, and I am glad to see that you have no such trouble!

If only we would do even a portion of the artificial work to build that beauty within. The outside artificial is so fleeting.

So to do the artists and poets loft unattainable definitions of ideals and truths so simple and yet so complex. I agree, even all that artificiality cannot stop time in its methodical progression, yet true beauty will sail on. Lovely poetry you have written here Mrs. Debra.

When we wake and look in the mirror. The dreams we had don't seem so clear. The face we see is not the same. As the part we played in our etherial game.

Powerful stuff Debra! You'd be proud of me since it's been a whole year since I've got needles stuck in my forehead! I have to say I miss it a little though (my DH is really cheap). Love, Natalie

How very descriptive. I'm glad to see somebody is submitting something longer than a haiku or senryu.

Dear Debra I really loved this, luckily sometimes the poet sees past gravities silent pull and then one is a girl again and all on earth reigns supreme! So well penned thank you! Hugs Lizzie

Gosh I just love your last line in this gem filled with wisdom Debra.. Thank you for your comment on my poem and don't worry I do have the tendency to want to plan everything too but I sometimes need to just take a step back and enjoy the little things (easier said than done) lol :)
