Artificial
Faux smiles and cold embraces
Your fingers leave no traces
Between us is open space empty
Hearts leave voids unfilled
Stale conversation makes for tasteless nights
I can't teach you how to be like me, sweet
Like cane stalk on Caribbean plantations
My mind thinks of you and your thoughts of me
That don't exist in my absence
We're cordial at best
We're friends with benefits that benefit me no longer
The events of the evening are easily forgotten
Leave your love tattooed on my soul
The ruse we've established to ease our dissatisfaction with solitude
Fools the world but not ourselves
No spark when we kiss just a bland touching of lips
Nothing good can come from a forged companionship
