Art Lesson

Whites calling Blacks coloured
Has never sat right with me
Plodding arrogant ignorance
In spite of realities that be

A quick spin on the colour wheel
Will help you see the light
Black is the absence of colour
All colours combined make white

When you paint the people you meet
Might I suggest a dab of zinc white*
This when your mind is pliable
True colours will always shine bright

* Zinc White is a highly translucent pigment, an artist's trick is to add a bit of
zinc white to keep a paint's colour as bright when dry as when wet.

Very insightful poem Maureen. I knew nothing about the zinc white. Very cool. Thank you.

It doesn't matters what any ones skin color is. It's not what's on the outside that is important any way. It's what's on the inside. That's what I was taught growing up. This is an awesome poem.I enjoyed it very much.

Absolutely true. I was taught the same. To be taught otherwise, well where to start with how wrong that is; sad mostly. Delighted you enjoyed Bette, thank you! xomo

your perty smart ... we grew up with "blacks" called coloured ... my grandpa sayd so ... and other derogatory words ... riddle me this ... is coal black ... have you ever seen a person the exact colour of any crayon in a box ... we can stone with words ... we have had people try and put me in a boxed coloured selection ... what box do you check ... if I was what they call "black" and they called me "black" we would be ready to fight ... to colour me anything but beautiful would be dirty on you .

A wonderful write Maureen! This is why we were given a holiday for MLK. Too bad more people don't take this time for your Art Lesson. Have a great day! Jeffrey

Since the color of Man doesn't apply to his soul then Man is neither black nor white! Whoever judges the book by its cover is truly ignorant my friend, Maureen therefore I do applaud your splendid poem !
