Aretha's Hat

Under a bright sky
Under a bow so big
Came a gift so strong
A voice
Letting freedom ring
A long journey of song
Soaring over mountain's majesty
This American treasure
Poured jewels in my ears
As she has so many times before
And again on a day so bright
Under a sky so clear
That voice
Is silent now to many an ear
My past is forever echoed
By vibrations of sound
Shouts of air
Expelled from deep lungs
Frissons of glory
The glory of song
I will always see
Her big hat
A hat so important
That it need a bow
Like any gift does
A majestic bow
Perched on a head filled with joy
The head of royalty
The head of
Aretha Louise Franklin
