"Are you a mommy's girl or a daddy's girl?"
"Are you a mommy's girl or a daddy's girl?"
I used to be...
Once I was a daddy's girl.
I thought no one loved like he did.
He was my Sun.
He made everything clear for me,
vanquishing every darkness.
He was my favourite person,
and no one in this world could compare.
But then I grew up.
I wasn't a little girl anymore.
I was a young woman.
And as a woman,
his actions made his love feel impure.
With every centimetre I grew,
so did the rift between us.
For my heart broke
for what he did to her.
At some point,
I was a mommy's girl too.
I thought I'd love no one like I loved her.
She was my Moon.
Even through the darkest nights,
her light never dimmed.
She was my source of strength.
But then I grew up.
I wasn't a little girl anymore.
I was a young woman.
And as a woman,
I began to see the cracks she tried so hard to hide.
I saw her love,
but I also felt the weight of her expectations.
With every centimetre I grew,
so did the distance between us.
For in her eyes,
I had failed before I had begun.
He was my Sun,
and she was my Moon.
Together, they lit my sky.
But now...
I have neither.
So I gather what little light they left behind,
and learn to become
my own sunrise,
my own moonlight.
Because sometimes,
the child who loses both
must become
her own sky.
