Are You a Dream

If I
opened my
eyes or pinched
myself, will you
still be there

Would I
still be able
to write this
poem, expressing
to you my care

Would I
still be able
to think of
you, as often
as I do

Could I
still come
by and see
your face and
simply talk to you

For if
one night I
were to wake
and find you
were a dream

To find
the joy that
I once sought
was not how I
had deemed

My days
would be
abandoned then,
a nightly heart
I’d keep

For if
you did live
in my dreams,
forever I would
sleep
