Are These Yours
Are these Yours?
Are these yours?
You’d be surprised at how often I’m asked.
Are these yours?
As if referring to a worn pair of sneakers
Or discarded chips on a bench.
Are these yours?
Sometimes discreetly whispered from the mouths of strangers
Assuming the truth in answer would bring shame to me.
Are these yours?
Most often bellowed across expanses in high pitched tones
Misguided in their belief that embarrassment will ensue.
Are these yours?
Determined not to succumb to ignorance
My face retains a broad smile so fixed in its place.
Are these yours?
Skins kissed by the sun, reflected in the beauty of angels
Unruly coils and downy springs erupting care free.
Are these yours?
Their eyes the deepest, darkest pools of light
Whilst mine appear grey and green.
Are these yours?
Each scrape, each scar, each freckle ingrained to memory
Entwined, their every fibre woven into me.
Are these yours?
Their very existence gives breath to my lungs
Smiles and giggles that make my heart beat.
Are these yours?
Yes! I will proclaim forever and again
Created from love, they’re mine wholeheartedly.
