Aquatic Blessings
Despite her very boring job
the sea witch still often arose
to swim upward to see the sun;
And every day, all day long
she would simply stay there
basking quietly in the sunlight;
Her crown of gold always glowed
as her eight midnight tentacles
splashed the sea just for fun;
Time always lingered but passed on
and yet the sea witch still enjoyed
the silent peace in the land above;
With the humans gone she felt free
until she saw the sight of a lady
in purple with a bright pink tail.
A green head of luscious hair appeared
as her long lost friend met her gaze
in these desolately calm night skies;
For a moment she paused before she said,
"I know you and I intend to bring you
the moon's light, for you are worthy."
She then held out the shining crescent
smiling up brightly while gulls sang
and didn't waver upon seeing the crown;
The ocean king's gold trident faced her
and that's when she realized her heart
had a question that needed an answer.
"Your song is what summoned me to you,
but will you ever come back home again
to share the music with the rest of us?"
The sea witch looked down at her trident
with a sagely smile while pointing it
towards the held out moon before replying,
"For many years I longed to feel like Ariel
so why rejoin the depths when this earth
has always offered me genuine refuge?"
Then she reached out to touch the moon
while the mermaid looked at her pensively,
not realizing that she'd just been blessed.
Note: The sea witch is based on an original character I created for a video game playthrough. You can see the accompanying art for this poem on my Tumblr.
