April Is When

April is when. I should have worn sandals with no socks. Let water flow. Between my toes. Making them cold. But they will dry quickly. April is when. Rain makes us helpless. Like burnt fried eggs. Don’t look away for even a second. Or a fire will start. Everything makes me cry. April First. I haven’t witnessed a prank in years. He put whipped cream in my shoes. Before I was supposed to go out. I was foolish then. I was mad. I tried not to be. April rain boots. Flooded sidewalks find a way into my socks. Like whipped cream. Don’t look away for even a second. I used to be cautious. Waiting for his pranks. Sometimes I still expect him to call. To be funny. April was the last time I saw him. He tried to prank me. But I caught him in time. I laughed because his prank failed. For the last time. April was when.
