April Chill

April cold like an ice trap
the magnolia and cherry blossoms trees
have given up their blooms like the Holy Ghost

Because of the lock down
only the birds, deer and chipmunks
were a witness to their funerals

Time has stood still
and I have stood stuck
each day a baby is born
but only death and dying make the news

Wake up
Pray
Eat
Make another phone call
Watch YouTube
Eat some more
And their are more losses

Rainfall drops keep falling on my mind
and the window sill a dull morbid grey

From that same window
I can see the street light
but traffic is quiet

I am praying that May
brings flowers and not a another riot
