The Italians (not wishing to waste anything) place lemon peel in 190 proof alcohol for a week to extract the essential oil. Then sweetened water added to dilute. My wife makes this every so often and we gift the samples to our grateful friends.

Oh wow, this is quite an intriguing and informative limerick.. This recipe looks wonderful! "In Sorrento they make limoncello" - 'Limoncello' the name describes it quite well, I've heard of this for the first time. You really present interesting themes in your limerick poems and that too, so effortlessly, making a beautiful atmosphere for the readers. I loved reading this! Sending best wishes and light, always. :)

Hiya, this has been available for a many years, but popularized in Europe by Italians. The flavor is incredibly intense since the oils in the lemon peel make it more intense than lemonade.

wow, sounds like a really cool recipe. But I never made anything with alcohol before. Not sure how I'd find it except for rubbing alcohol. haha

The liquor stores sell bottles of grain alcohol, which makes this drink. However, not a joke to handle it safely. I urge my wife to move the production away from any source of ignition. After the dilution with sugar water at the end, the hazard that remains occurs from any excessive imbibing. There are suggested recipes online.

You are so very kind with this comment Silent One. I do write about experiences and news and try to find humor where possible. There are a lot of small amazing things that happen right in front of us if only we take the trouble to look. There are also so many opportunities to bring a little joy to others.

The Italians do have a way with food and drink. That particular one has a very strong flavor. Not what we usually experience. I have to be careful. I don't drink alcohol but I could see myself drinking a lot of this and crashing right afterwards. It's not an uncommon urge.

My wife who is old school Italian corrects my pronunciation all the time, and we laugh about it constantly. I am not a drinker now (was in the past), but will taste the results (a few drops) to see what it tastes like. The intensity is rather incredible. Who knew what was in the peel? Well some do.
