Appeal to Poetry

We enjoy reading poems from the past. They describe those ages, their horrors. Should we regret delectation as we suck in, and smile at, repugnance, misery, sadness? Should we repel such poems of sorrow choose only humour, gladness, joy? So easily can we turn our backs on misery that tortures so many. So quickly may we lie on the ground, punch it with clenched hands, roar with our cries; or may we smile, get up, forget what is so far behind us? (11 December 2023)
