Apologies To the Muse
Apologies are due the queen!
In gorgeous brown, not blue or green,
Majestic eyes, soft ‘n serene -
May hers remain upon this seen:
For metered verse and rhymes obscene,
Apologies are due the queen;
A faithful scribe now feels unclean
That let disloyal thoughts careen;
His failure then to intervene
Is why this pad and pen convene -
Apologies are due the queen,
The one bemused where there’s fourteen;
And what to do? The guillotine?
Douse the sonnet with kerosene?
(The first he wrote without her sheen)
Or move on at last and tell his queen:
It hurts to let go, ya know what I mean?
But, to the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,
For being less than I should have been -
My apologies. I’ll miss you, my once ago queen.
