Ape Speech
The ape lord was once
The king of the clan
But old age drove him forth
To an isolated cave
In search of peace and quiet
But not because it was time
One quiet evening
With family sat he
Enjoying the beauty
Of prancing boys and girls
When came the newest king
And his own righteous men
Pretending to visit
In a much friendly way
While evil intent thus
Propelled his highness hence.
The secret plot to kill
Or maim the former king
Was whispered to his ears
By a good secret spy
And the old man at once
Did drop the friendly smile
And heaving his big frame
Knocked off the nearest one
And the others all fled
Leaving that one behind
Then lifting the fallen
Like a castrated hog
He threw him after them
And said this to their back:
"There is a day and time
Appointed for all to die
But this is not the day.
When the day comes
Ours will be a clamorous exit
We shall swim in the blood
Of our enemies
And make a boat with their corpses
To ride triumphantly to eternity!"
