Anxiety
There's no gradual realization,
It hits you like a slap.
It doesn't care where you are,
Or who you are at that.
fear claws through you
causing bumps on your skin.
And your friends ask are you okay?
But where do you begin?
Your throats closing
so much you can't choke on tears.
Your thoughts race
Faster than the years.
Sounds swallow you
and you fight but where do you run?
you're a creature of habit
There's a lifetime of fear to be undone.
Your hearts punching out your chest
and somewhere you question
why you live like this?
And how long can you ask
for others to be understanding
While you hide behind a mask?
When they ask if you're okay,
and you say
'Yes, why'd you ask?'
