Anthem
How loud the anthem played
with soldiers on parade
off to some foreign land
helping a new nation take a stand.
Wars lag on
easily forgotten by the throngs
Men and women come home
unannounced without songs.
Peace remains aloof
and the battle cries lie in the proof
that greedy needs of the powerful and rich
took us in with their loudest pitch.
Democracy indeed should be for all
but the men and women still fall
beneath the war cry bombing foreign lands
would that peace soon be at hand.
Let the anthem be played again
for brave women and young men
bring them home to family and love
send back the olive branch with the dove.
