Another Life

There in another life.
I walked along.

There in another life.
You came along.

I felt you in the sun.
Where did the time go?

When we were one.
There in another life.

I felt your heart beating against my soul.
Where did the time go?

When we thought we were in love.
Why did it not manifest for a lifetime.

On a bed of roses, I lay with you.
But now I see them no more.

Why could we not dance this dance forever more?

Oh dear, I see Don Johnson beneath my comment from last year. I believe he passed away. So sad to learn these things of our Soup poets.

A second chance at life and love, would be nice! Sometimes, I feel like I am what they call, an "old soul". I am familiar with people and things, as if I have been there before. This is an enchanting poem, Debbie! I loved it so much that I am adding it to my favorites!...Thank you very much for the nice comments.

A very good poem Debbie. why is a very good question that we ask ourselves and we can't get the answer. I do believe that there is another life after this one. I just hope it's better. Thanks for sharing..... Lucilla

I think the end of something marks the beginning of something else. However, sometimes it is hard not to think back and lament what we thought we could have had. Or what we thought we had. Your poem captures this sadness with precision. I am glad you had a chance to see my poem about the hummer. It was written out of my annoyance for gas guzzlers. You have a romantic heart, by the way.

How awesome you wrote this during the funeral scene of True Blood? Don't you just love that show? I have many other favorites: walking dead, the Bridge, the killing, Dexter, Breaking Bad, just to name a few. Sure wish I could be inspired to write poems from them all!!

i think we do agree, before we are born , to spend some time together, the ones that draw and startle some, but never stay no never, one, a flash in the pan, a labour of love, and then they're gone forever??? some? Don re: "Another Life" Debbie Duncan

this one reminds me of a song too, Debbie. I wish I could remember the name of it, but even the tune has left my mind. It's about a girl who broke up with her guy and now she wishes she had never given him up. If I remember it, I'll let you know. I think it was sung by Taylor Swift. I really enjoyed this.

Deep, sad, & melancholic...perhaps the dance couldn't continue because they didn't know the steps it took to sway to heart's rhythm? Wild guess. Either way, excellent writing!!!
