Another Life

“Another Life”

Another Life
counts every
number avidly

hours and people
pass by in this place
purgatory holds grace

trying to save face
it's a treadmill
for the lost, this place

where the missing
go - you know,
the sweet spot,

the safe place
where there's no reality,
missing gravity

all the words
you should have said
lie in state

Another Life
counts every
number, avidly

Time counts
the cracked marks
all the bleeding heels

painful, wide open
on the never ending
road tracks

arms lift upwards
appealing,
inviting inwards

something real
just to feel,
just to feel

the true worth
in tears that birthed
an ocean baptismal

watching the naked truth
the barefeet walk
another life

questioning stories
how tall? still small, still
time doing time

in the imprisoned heart
light and dark
marks another life

counting min numbers
on a wall, imprisoned
with the time thieves

in another life,
waiting for the divine
intervention

lined up
with the others
in another life

I’ve been researching ‘numbers’ lately. We are assigned a number at birth, the date we enter this existence, we are serialised by a number on our birth certificates; we are a number in social security, banks, healthcare, schools, prisons. We are weighed and measured physically by numbers, our clothes, our shoes, the weight of us, the height of us, the number of hairs on our head, the number of teeth we have, the number of white and red blood cells, eventually the size of our coffin, surely urns are easier. We are measured in life by the scores we reach in education, our promotion in life (or not) and we are perceived by the measurement of that achievement by numbers and currency assigned to how much we are worth fiscally and socially. We are bought and sold by numbers. We compete, we win and lose by numbers.

We are immersed in numbers and passages from religious tomes, that stamp us with the measure of hours, days, years we have left to work it all out, the number of sins we have committed weighed against the number of good deeds we have performed. Some people state that we are more than just numbers. I wonder if ‘souls’ are assigned numbers, how they are identified and measured. Are we, humanity, in an informal school where lessons are perpetual, or simply in some alternative prison state and tortured until we break with the understanding that we have been asleep the whole time and it is all just a rollercoaster dream, where we are assigned numbers over and over. Some people worry too much about numbers, when they should be concentrating on the sweet spot outside of the past, in the ‘Now’, forget all the other numbers and concentrate on your own number and how it fits into the equation, for the troll/s who OCD every hour, every day.

Perhaps best to stop looking at the clock and calculating numbers as a win or lose situation – if you have been released in one way or another, you have been given a freedom, which is measured as well. We are all on the spinning wheel. The poem I’ve written here is titled “Another Life”, doors open, doors close. How many lives are we given? I could talk forever about numbers. How do we measure forever? In one way or another we are all assigned our personal MIN numbers, we are continually monitored by some form of corrective service, they say it is numbered too, call it 1. For the superstitious, and religious we have 888 and 666. Who are we to judge by numbers, if these are accurate and anything to measure a life by, Romans 3:23. Regards not-just-a-number, sufferin' succotash x

"where the missing go ... you know, the sweet safe spot" I loved this part!

All sorts of sweet spots Mme Krutsinger, that elicit some warm feelings, not necessarily safe, but one could be forgiven thinking 'safe' at the time. x
