Anniversary

The merry-go-round lights illuminate your face, and the mess of plastic that passes for a fountain here washes the noise of the overpass. You smile at me and not for the first time I am reminded that we are in love. Violent, stupid, arrogant love. We press our bodies into one another exchanging heat and you laugh, like music. You are my burial at sea. The horizon my heart sails toward, a chase that never stops.
