Notes About The Poem

This poem can be sung to the melody of the theme song of that old TV show, "Car 54, Where Are You?"

Angry Rising Tide

One school shooting in Alabama
  And another in Louisiana

Here's a protest in the park
That's gone on and on past dark

There's an angry rising tide
  Demanding gun-violence to subside

Courage and Change ~ Where Are You??

Right to the point, Gershon. I am so discouraged with the state of thing right now. Now, I can easily envision how the American Civil War occurred whereas previously, as a passage in a history book, I wondered, could people be so stupid. Grete write!

Great comment! 639,000 or so had to die in what they dubbed the 'civil' war --not so civil, methinks. What'll it take today? --- Probably California seceding from the Union, Illinois going bankrupt, and someone building a wall around Washington, D.C. (not a bad idea!) before we wake up. Thanks for your insights, Mike! ~ gershon

And there's more media attention today than 60s-70s ... a change must come if we only wake up...

You're so right, Gershon. And where is civility? Celebrities and leaders now just holler whatever is on their minds. We're all supposed to have a "filter" in our minds that keep some things from rushing out our mouths. The number of people who lack that filter is steadily increasing. Whoa! You didn't ask for all that, did you?! Good job on the poem. Janice

Don't worry, Janice! What a great comment!! More, more, please. I so enjoy it when someone is actually sincerely moved by something, esp. something as important as this is! Civility, restraint, rule of law, modesty, not hanging our wash out on the public line to dry, ---all these things seem to have gone by the wayside...Janice, tell me more whenever you want! Thanks, Gershon

Our country is getting crazy. Political parties threatening one another.. it's insane! Where are the Beatles when we need them?!?!

--Too busy making millions, I guess. The only person I can think of today who could calm things down is Laura Bush. I'd vote for her in a heartbeat. Too bad she won't run: She doesn't want the 'limelight,'and she's way too decent a person for the vulgar circus which national and international diplomacy has become. After all, if Yasir Arafat and Vladimir Putin can win peace prizes, whence sanity?! ...Thanks for weighing in, Lyric. Best wishes, Gershon

Drastic measures need to be taken Gershon, its happening far too often of late. Tom

Couldn't agree more with you more, Tom. It's way past time to bring these shootings to a grinding halt! Thanks for weighing in. As always, Gershon
